A friend recently hooked me up with this movie and it's amazing! The main character Momoko (Kyoko Fukada) wears the most delectable EGL-style outfits imaginable! Her selection of dresses, bonnets and accessories are absolutely adorable!
She also has a fixation with a line of lolita clothing called "Baby, the stars shine bright" that turns out to be an actual company!
Check it out:

And any recommendations for similar movies would be greatly appreciated! :)

Tue, June 13, 2006 - 3:10 PMYes, i believe BSSB will be shipping to the US at some point in the future. While sweet loli and Rococco style are not my preference, Momoko does have wonderful taste, and it seems fairly realistic that a good amount of lolis live off in the boondocks with no friends they can identify with and nothing to do but dream. Me? i would go crazy if my only shopping option for clothing was Jusco.
If you decide to try putting together a sweet loli style outfit, i would love to see pictures! For buying, the label Metamorphose Temps de Fille (also known just as Meta) makes quite a bit of stuff in that style, and they have an English Web site and ship to the US. www.metamorphose.gr.jp/english/
Meta is a good label to buy if you're looking for a frillier Loli look and want to buy label stuff, because they make a wide variety of well-designed, wonderful, high-quality clothing in both Gothic Lolita and the sweet, country and schoolgirl varieties. Many Lolis in the West base their wardrobe around a few well-selected pieces of Meta clothing.
Movie-wise, you might enjoy Nana, a very popular manga series, anime and movie (i don't know if the movie's been imported yet) about two girls named Nana, one a bit buzzed in the brain, very lovable and normal, and the other a punker-type girl into the Japanese music scene; they meet and form a deep and lasting friendship, and there's some great romance, comedy and friendship drama. It'll give you a look at the larger music and fashion scene of Japan, and is wonderful reading/watching. The manga is by Ai Yazawa. As far as manga, many of the lolita-related artists (such as Novala Takemoto, Macoto and Takaya Miou) are almost or entirely un-imported. There are, however, a few pieces of interest to lolita-types that have been translated. Among them are Paradise Kiss (also by Ai Yazawa, concerning the Japanese fashion and fashion-school scene) and Kaori Yuki's Godchild, a lush pseudo-historical Victorian drama with much spiritualism, tophats, bonnets and petticoats to go around. Kaori Yuki's Angel Sanctuary is also great fun, though it doesn't have any loli in it to speak of (plenty of gender-bending, incest and bloody feuds, though).
That's certainly no exhaustive guide, but it'll get you started. :D -

Wed, June 14, 2006 - 6:59 AMI have to agree, I've bought a few items of meamorphose, and while expensive, they are wonderfuly well made and worth it. there's pictures of me in my photo album wearing a black suit I bought from them, the flocked print on the fabric is signature to them with their logo and says metamorphose in cursive!
