I hate supporting anything hot topic because they are the most corporate of corporate skumbags.......BUT
they got a new one they're calling harjuku kitty. if you look around their website they also have a ton of cheaply made black with white lace egl inspired dresses and shoes.

I said it a year ago EGL was gonna get popular stateside.
still don't know how I feel about that.
if it means some bands might come here it might be worth seeing a bunch of 14 year olds badly attempt to pull off the look.

EGL is a look that is VERY difficult to pull off just right. Not quite sure if people in US will actually go to the trouble of doing EGL what with all the accessories and layers of clothing, but I wouldn't be surprised if cheap one-piece dresses start popping out everywhere. Hot Topic has been in that lead for a while now.

yeah, americans don't seem to get the concept that it's what you COVER UP/innocence that makes EGL sexy and attractive, so they usually just end up looking like some courtney love skanks.

        "courtney love skanks"
LMAO! maybe thats why i was drawn to this tribe,.. i want to know what real gothic is like. I'm in Canada (with unfortunate similarities to the states) and so much of what i see is crappy,.. greasy,.. can't decide if your punk crossed with vampire crossed with a total lack of japanese culture, all squeezed into cheap burgundy velourish pants. Its boring and somewhat embarassing to see,.. I always figured theres got to be more to it. An elegance, and art to it. A whole new fashion genre. Am i wrong in that? I like looking at the photo gallery. Thanks ladies!

if you want to know what it's all about jlist.com has tons of japanese photobooks, just type in "gothic lolita bible" into their search engine. they are pricy, but trust me they're nicely bound THICK glossy pages, not like throw-away american magazines.

The Gothic and Lolita tribe is hardly going to be a goldmine of goths... There is a fair amount of crossover, but Lolita style is worn equally or more often by otaku who have little to no interest in goth. My personal goth tribe of choice is SF Goth.

Hot Topic needs to remain for casual wear. I do wear hot topic, but only for tees and the random accesory (like the morbid nail-polish).

There are Americans who take EGL very seriously, Layers and all.
      like at www.lolitasnap.com

Me, I'm not new to EGL but I am new to wearing EGL and I'm taking it slow because I'm going the "home made" rather than all bought look.
I will buy, but that's only for the proper accesories and peices that cannot be found in the states.

Rest asure if hot topic came out with anything remotely amusing, it would still have to take some SERIOUS altering to look close to true EGL.
Not really wroth it, BUT for those on a budget...miracles can be pulled off.
      (I hope LOL!)

I've personally found problems with lolitasnap before. It's the classic case of OMGZ LOLI DRAMA WTF. They are a bit nitpicky... and I found my account magically deleted one day (and no, it wasnt one of the times that they redid the sites and you had to redo everything again) I tried to get more pictures on there but they wouldnt approve of any. Peculiar because before all of my pictures recieve amazing ratings.
Why? Well it essentially boiled down to: I wear too much make up, my hair isnt right and my shoes were too fetishy.
This also happened to a friend of mine! She's probably the most gothic lolita person I know too...she incorperates it into her life every day, clothing and personality; shes quite frankly amazing.
bitter? yeah...because i see people on there who suck in comparison to me. But Ijust do myself a favor and avoid the site now.
        </gripes>
So in short, yes they take it seriously.

i despise ANYONE of any style of dress/subculture that takes themselves too seriously.

be it punk, goth, or even hipsters or preppy people.

my advice to people like that is.....

get over yourselves, cause everyone else already has!!

          hahahahahah

Yeah. What's the point of spending all this money and time on clothing if it's not art? Why spend many hours and many dollars imitating someone else's idea of what looks good? It's foolish and pointless. Like i said to Her Imperial Vice-Highness on LoliSnap, Loli is slowly dying in Japan, and it's partly because the look has become so codified, so regimented, and so commercial.

Wonder what she would think if she knew i wear loli clothing with a corset... :D
Gottverboten that i should wear a distinctly Victorian garment, worn by all ladies of the 1800s except for the lowliest working girls, and even by some children; why? Because it's not displayed on a rack in Moi meme Moite or Metamorphose temps de Fille!

(psst, don't tell her that Mana wore a very tight-lacing Victorian V-line corset under his clothes for the Dahlia PV and tour; that's how he gets those unnatural curves).

psssh there's corsets ALL OVER the pages of the EGL bibles!!!...they even have done special inserts devoted TO corsets!!! (but I'm sure you already know)

yeah it's a shame the loli thing is dieing down in japan, and it will probably be gone by the time I get to go there..
and it's a look that takes too much time, effort and money to really catch on in the US, cause most people here are way too lazy to spend hours getting dressed and making clothes.

Well frankly, my lifestyle had adaped to loli over time; my day has two phases. Morning phase i get up around 10:00, throw on some clothes and get working. After supper, which is around 7:00, i take time to shower and dress properly, puting on all my loli garb. Then, after i get back from social functions at night, in the time between like midnight/1:00 and 2:30, i take some time to sew every night. That way, i still don't have to wear impeding clothing in my hardest work (which i do in the morning), and i don't have to spend all that time the moment i get up.
