question(s)

topic posted Tue, January 22, 2008 - 4:39 PM by  Noodle
This may come off as a oxymoron, but does anyone have any idea where I might find inexpensive gl clothing, or websites with patterns on how to make glclothing? Particularly Wa-loli clothing. I'm trying to come up with cosplay ideas for the con next year, and any inspiration would be appreciated.

thanks,
leila

Have you heard of these sites?
    blueperiod.suddenlaunch.com
It is a goth lolita message site, but with tons of info, has some links to sites and also patterns. It is a nice jumping point.

    www.avantgauche.co.uk/
Is another good one. It carries all sorts of links.

Surfing from these two places should get you to a lot of patterns. I'm on my school's computer so I don't have all the ones on my laptop. I will hopefully have the internet installed this week and will post more then. A few of the sites that I have marked are pattern sites.

If you want to get the gothic and lolita bibles and have the actual patterns go to www.jlist.com
They are in Cali and you can also get a subscription for the magazine and a few other pattern magazines that are from Japan. A few of them are specifically cosplay and look really great!

Happy hunting and I hope this helped!

if you really want loli patterns, the best can be found by thinking outside the box. think square dance. yes, think red-neck eldery women in huge frilly skirts, all you do is make the dresses in fabrics that are pretty rather than hideous. paterns for pinafores and everything. this will give you a very BTSSB or metamorphose look, i don't know if that's the look you want, but BTSSB is as loli as they come. unless you live in whitetrashville (oklahoma) like me, you'll probably have to order them online though.

The only problem with square dance patterns would be that the line of the silhouette would be all wrong. Square dance dresses tend to go at straight angles from the hips don't they? Kinda like a triangle with a rounded bottom? The Lolita sihouette is more of a bell shape.

if you want the skirt less full you just wear a less full petticoat and let it hang more instead of standing strait out. petticoats come in different fullnesses.

They do come in different fullness, but it's still important to get a bell shape instead of a triangle shape. Also, depending on the pattern of the skirt, simply putting a different shaped petticoat underneath doesn't always work because it effects the way the skirt hangs/lays and can make it look funky. Not saying your suggestions won't work, I just wanted to mention some things to look out for when doing them. ^_^
